ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Chemical engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with the application of physical science (e.g., chemistry and physics), and life sciences (e.g., biology, microbiology and biochemistry) with mathematics, to the process of converting raw materials or chemicals into more useful or valuable forms. In addition to producing useful materials, modern chemical engineering is also concerned with pioneering valuable new materials and techniques - such as nanotechnology, fuel cells and engineering. Chemical engineering largely involves the design, improvement and maintenance of processes involving chemical or biological transformations for large-scale manufacture. Chemical engineers ensure the processes are operated safely, sustainable and economically. Chemical engineers in this branch are usually employed under the title of process engineer. A related term with a wider definition is chemical technology. A person employed in this field is called a chemical engineer.

IMPORTANCE OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING
Chemical Engineering is concerned with the economic design, operation and control of chemical plants. Today a wide range of products are being manufactured in Chemical process industries. Chemical Engineers have made tremendous contributions over the years in developing new products, processes and improving the standard of living. Chemical engineers employ, mathematics, physics, chemistry and engineering art to overcome technical problems in a safe and economic fashion. The discipline is ever expanding and the new science and engineering are helping develop technologies that are more efficient, safer and environment friendly. The breadth and versatility of their training will continue to open many new opportunities for chemical engineers in the future. Our mission is to create and sustain an environment for learning, enquiry and generation of new ideas to aid the education of chemical engineers who will lead the profession, in the development of new technologies and in the service to the industry.
The Chemical Engineering Department envisions to be recognized as an outstanding department with Centre of Excellence in advanced research and high quality education to meet global challenges in the field of education and industry.

Head of the Department (Chemical Engineering)
Dr. Ravi Kant Singh, received the M.Tech degree in Biotechnology from IET, Lucknow and Ph.D. degree in Biotechnology from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow with specialization in Genetic Toxicology and Environment Biotechnology. He had completed his M.Tech dissertation work from Developmental Toxicology Division of ITRC, Lucknow and Ph.D. research work from Reaction Engineering Lab of IIT Roorkee.
Dr. Singh had published 25 research papers in refereed international journals and more than 10 research papers in various national and international conferences. He is a member of Board of Studies at Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow and approved supervisor in the field of Biotechnology in Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow. He has been an expert consultant to many organizations & industries in India in the fields of Environment Biotechnology. He has also been ISO Certified Internal Auditor by STQC, India. He is life member of Association of Biotechnology and Pharmacy, India and Association of Microbiologist of India, India and The Indian Society of Human Genetics.
His field of interest includes Biochemical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, Bioreactor Design & Analysis, Environmental Biotechnology.
Message to Chemical Engineers:
Chemical engineers "develop economic ways of using materials and energy" as opposed to chemists who are more interested in the basic composition of materials and synthesizing products. Chemical engineers use chemistry and engineering to turn raw materials into usable products, such as medicine, petrochemicals and plastics. They are also involved in waste management and research. A chemical engineer may be involved in industry or university research where he is involved in designing and performing experiments to create new and better ways of production, controlling pollution, conserving resources and making these processes safer. He may be involved in designing and constructing plants as a project engineer. In this field, the chemical engineer uses his knowledge in selecting plant equipment and the optimum method of production to minimize costs and increase profitability. After its construction, he may help in upgrading its equipment. He may also be involved in its daily operations.
