About the course


The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) was established in the year 2012 with an undergraduate programme in Biotechnology. Over the years the department has seen exponential growth and has cemented its credentials both in the field of Teaching and Research. Our vision has been to impart quality education to budding biotechnology professionals and also foster strong interdisciplinary research in frontier areas of Biotechnology. Biotechnology department has signed MOUs with Codon Biotech. Pvt. Ltd., Noida & Institute for Industrial Research & Toxicology, Ghaziabad. We also have collaboration with various reputed institutes like IIT Roorkee, GGSIP University Delhi, IET Lucknow, NDRI Karnal, Biotech Park Lucknow, etc. Apart from providing in-depth knowledge of core biotechnology subjects, the students are provided with additional training in soft skills and foreign languages. The Institute offers a lot of opportunities to explore extracurricular activities for holistic and enriching experience to B.Tech. Biotechnology students. Our faculty members are involved in interdisciplinary research in frontier areas such as bioprocess technology, environmental biotechnology, nanotechnology, microbial technology, bioinformatics, genetic engineering to name a few. The grant of research activities includes Projects, Patents & Publications; and commercialization products are also under process.

To transform the department into Centre of Excellence with advanced research in cutting edge areas of Biotechnology and to inculcate problem-solving skills in the budding bio-technocrats; thus making them capable of meeting emerging challenges in education and industry.

1. To develop state-of-the-art research facilities in the field of biotechnology to fulfill global requirements of human resources
2. To impart quality education to the students and to enhance their technical skills to make them globally competitive
3. To encourage the culture of continuous learning and adopt advanced technologies to solve complex problems
4. To impart academics, corporate and entrepreneurial leadership in our students along with global awareness required by the engineering profession
5. To inculcate social and ethical values in graduates for progressive attainment at the social level

Engineering Graduates will be able to:

1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems

Head of the Department (BIOTECHNOLOGY)


Dr. Ravi Kant Singh received the M.Tech degree in Biotechnology from IET, Lucknow and Ph.D. degree in Biotechnology from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow with specialization in Genetic Toxicology and Environment Biotechnology. He had completed his M.Tech dissertation work from Developmental Toxicology Division of ITRC, Lucknow and Ph.D. research work from Reaction Engineering Lab of IIT Roorkee. Dr. Singh had published 25 research papers in refereed international journals and more than 10 research papers in various national and international conferences. He is a member of Board of Studies at Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow and approved supervisor in the field of Biotechnology in Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow. He has been an expert consultant to many organizations & industries in India in the fields of Environment Biotechnology. He has also been ISO Certified Internal Auditor by STQC, India. He is life member of Association of Biotechnology and Pharmacy, India and Association of Microbiologist of India, India and The Indian Society of Human Genetics. His field of interest includes Bioprocess Engineering, Bioreactor Design & Analysis, Biochemical Engineering, Enzyme Engineering & Environmental Biotechnology
